From Shopping to Screening
Situated within on one of the UK’s largest shopping centres is the new Metrocentre CDC (Community Diagnostic Centre).
An £18.6 million investment was allocated to develop the CDC. It aims to provide quicker and more accessible diagnostic services, reducing the need for hospital visits.
Accelerating speed of care
Located within the shopping centre, the Metrocenter CDC has excellent transport links and parking facilities. It aims to speed up diagnosis and give patients quicker access to improved primary care services, offering approximately 145,000 appointments annually.
The Metrocentre CDC offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic services, including:
- Imaging
- Cardiology
- Respiratory
- Pathology
Hygenius worked with The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to provide FF&E for the 40,000 sq ft space. This included waiting areas, consultation spaces, diagnostic rooms and more – all helping to increase patient flow and quality of care.
Staff Wellbeing & Workflow
Working with Ryder Architecture and Robertson Group, we focused on designing ergonomic work areas for staff that helped reduce footfall whilst increasing efficient work practises. This included a range of spaces such as workstations, staff rest spaces, changing rooms, canteens and more.
With its emphasis on efficiency, and accessibility, the Metrocentre CDC sets a new benchmark for community-based healthcare facilities, illustrating the potential of strategic design to enhance both patient and staff experience.
“The building is really nice and getting here is so much easier than going to a hospital. You can park easily and just walk in.”
