The £24m Outpatients Transformation for Stepping Hill
A new outpatients department spanning 2,870m2 has been delivered using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) for Stockport NHS foundation trust.
Built to replace the former ‘Outpatients B’ building, the site now assembles multiple outpatient services under one purpose-built roof. Services include: orthoptics, optometry, dentistry, pain management to name a few.
Achieving a 74% PMV
Constructed by MTX contracts, the building was built using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC). The use of MMC has shown to produce up to 45% less carbon emissions compared to traditional building solutions.
MTX noted that by using MMC and modular steel units, significant time savings and reduced disruption could be achieved compared to conventional methods. As a result, the project achieved a huge 74% Pre-manufactured value (PMV).
This approach directly supports Stockport NHS Foundation Trust’s long-term sustainability plans and estate rationalisation strategy.
Improving Care for Half a Million Patients
With the hospital seeing half a million patients annually, the new facility will drastically improve access to outpatient services.
Working with our project partners, Hygenius supplied and fitted Group 1 furniture and fixings for the new facility.
Interiors feature the Hygenius worksurface, a 12mm worktop designed for ultimate infection control. The thick acrylic non-porous material prevents chipping and water ingress. It features a seamless 50mm coved upstand to the rear of the surface, removing seams and cracks for bacteria to hide in.
Through details like this, Stepping Hill Hospital will now provide a safer environment to treat patients within the surrounding communities. Working with MTX, Ryder architecture and the trust, we are glad to have played a part in delivering a facility that will provide high quality care for the half million patients.
