The stark and imposing appearance of the previous building did not make for a welcoming environment for patients and staff. Designed by Medical Architecture and delivered by Kier Construction, the Guisborough Primary Care Centre underwent a £5.3m redevelopment project for South Tees NHS trust saving the NHS £9.6m.

The modern community hub now offers integrated services for proactive community health including radiology, dental services and physiotherapy – better serving an ageing population with complex health needs. By bringing access to mental and physical care closer to home, it will reduce admissions to larger general hospitals.

The bright, cheerful colour pallets of the interiors make for a positive environment that supports mental wellbeing. The staff rest areas with large areas of glazing offer plentiful daylight and provides a calm space for staff to take breaks with views to nature. Hygenius were involved in providing the full FF&E package for the new Guisborough Primary Care Centre – a revolutionised facility for staff and patients alike.

“You can see from the staff, when they come over here, how much nicer this building is for them to operate in. The standard of patient care I think will improve because of that, and it’s a nice welcome place for anyone to come.”
