Helping end dormitory-style care in Lincolnshire

Norton Lea forms part of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s £36m mental health improvement programme.

The new facility replaces Ward 12 at Pilgrim Hospital.

It moves inpatient care away from outdated dormitory accommodation.

By prioritising privacy, dignity and patient experience, Norton Lea supports LPFT’s ambition to improve inpatient mental health care across Lincolnshire.

Inside the 19-bed Havenside ward

The purpose-built Havenside ward includes 19 ensuite bedrooms, supporting greater privacy and dignity.

Outdoor courtyard access, quiet rooms, sensory areas and family spaces support different patient needs.

Natural daylight, improved acoustics and a nature garden add to the therapeutic feel.

Shaped by lived experience

Patients, carers, staff and Experts by Experience helped shape the building from the start.

Their feedback influenced the layout, colours, furniture, outdoor spaces and sensory areas.

The site also brings inpatient care and crisis support together. This creates a more joined-up mental health hub for Boston and south Lincolnshire.

Delivered on time and within budget, the project also created wider social value.

This included student engagement, STEM activity and employment-related initiatives.
